OUR STORy

In the summer of 1996, three families met with Ralph and Rhonda Sigler in their living room to talk about how to begin a new church in Dothan, Alabama. The group began to grow as more were drawn to the vision of this church. After praying together, the group felt led to call the new church “Harvest Church.”

That September the first Sunday morning service of Harvest Church was held in the Girard Middle School cafeteria. On November 3, 1996 there were 200 people in attendance at the formal opening service! It was advertised as “The Birth of Harvest Church — The Start of Something Good!”

It truly was the start of something good. God has been so faithful to us, and we look forward to what He has in store for us as we continue to seek Him. We love meeting together knowing His presence is with us. We know He has a great future for Harvest Church!

OUR strategy

REACH THE UN-CHURCHED

We want to be a church where people can come as they are, feel wanted here, see people who are real and serious about their faith, and be comfortable enough to examine the claims of Christianity.

PRACTICE AUTHENTIC WORSHIP

We want to experience God's presence at church! As we give Him worship and praise from our hearts, He begins to reveal Himself to us, and we are transformed.

BE SMALL GROUP BASED

Jesus said that we are known as His disciples when we love each other (John 13:35). Small groups give us the opportunity to live Christianity in close relationship with other believers.

We also…

SUPPORT MISSIONS

As a church we tithe 10% of all offerings to other ministries in our area, in our country, and throughout the world.

ARE COMMITTED TO GROW

We are committed to doing whatever it takes to keep reaching people for the Kingdom of God.

WANT TO BE AN INFLUENCE

As God blesses us at Harvest, we are able to encourage and influence other churches, our community, and believers around the world.

What We Believe

God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons.

We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and his life, death, and resurrection demonstrates God's redeeming love.

The Holy Spirit is God's present activity in our midst. When we sense God's leading, God's challenge, or God's support or comfort, it's the Holy Spirit at work.

Genesis 1:27 asserts that we've been made in the image of the Creator. Like God we have the capacity to love and care, to communicate, and to create.

The church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and is the primary authority for our faith and practice.

The kingdom or reign of God is both a present reality and future hope.

the people of Harvest

God has brought together an extremely varied group of people - all ages, all economic levels, all types of vocational and educational experiences, and life circumstances. Approximately 1/3 of the members were not attending church before coming to Harvest. The other 2/3's come from every possible church background.

We're not looking for perfect people or religious people… just for people who honestly want more of God in their lives.
